A Day To Remember at the Showbox
Toursick 2010 came to Seattle recently featuring A Day To Remember with guests, August Burns Red, Silverstein, Enter Shikari and Go Radio. I had the opportunity to sit down with some of the band and ask them some questions while they were here. Josh Woodward on Bass Guitar, Alex Shellnut on Drums and front man Jeremy McKinnon.
I just finish shooting Enter Shikari and I am escorted backstage and upstairs to the showbox green rooms. The sound of the band downstairs is still loud but muffled.
Grib: So, how do you like Seattle?
Josh: Love it. Didn’t get out much because it was raining on and off.
Grib: Hows the road?
Josh: It’s been long and really fun. This tour has probably been my favorite tour ever. All the bands on the tour is really easy to get along with. Most of them we have toured with before, it’s kind of like touring with your best friends. And every day you get to hang out and play music. It can’t get much better than that.
Grib: How will today’s show differ from yesterdays show or tomorrows?
Alex: Every shows different, I don’t know how to explain it. There’s just a different vibe for every show.
Josh: Whether it be the kids or the room or how we think we performed, the city
itself like if we did something fun that day.
Grib: Do you ever come away from a show disappointed?
Alex: Mostly just in the way we may have played.
Grib: What kind of emotions are you guys going through while you are playing on stage?
Alex: Basically it’s like an hour and ten minutes of where you think of nothing but playing a show. You don’t really think about anything else at all.
Grib: What did you expect when you started this band?
Jeremy: It was kind of weird, we didn’t really start the band to do what we are doing now, we were doing it to have fun, and we were doing it to play the music that we wanted to play. I always knew I would play music in my life. There was no other option.
Grib: What do you guys’ like to do when you are not playing music? What do you do to break up the monotony of the road?
Josh: We all do our own kind of thing like me, I brought my ping pong table. I try to play ping pong as much as I can.
Alex: I like to skateboard, but I forgot my skateboard.
Josh: Jeremy plays tons of video games; Kevin plays a lot of video games too. Neil’s got a clothes line thing so he tries to focus on that and we’re all doing things to try and stay busy.
Jeremy: I say on stage every single night. We’re just normal dudes. We’re playing music that we want to play. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. We’re just excited that people like what we do. I tell people it’s about getting out there and working for what you want. If we can do it then anyone can do it. Just believe in yourself. That’s it!
Grib: What would your dream show be?
Jeremy: Madison Square Garden.
Josh: With Blink 182 and New Found Glory. That would be so cool to me.
Grib: Thanks for taking the time to talk with me.
Josh: Thanks so much for coming.
Grib: See you in the pit!
