Halestorm at the Rock Girl Gala
She walks in light. The crowd falls hush. Bathed in a blue spot. Gentle feather in a blast furnace. She comes to rest just inches from the edge of the stage. Kneeling down in a position of prayer her head down she begins to sing. Her white hooded jacket catches the light with a heavenly glow and sounds that fill this venue stop nothing short of angelic.
The uppercut to your face catches you not unexpectedly but throws you back none the less and this band explodes on the stage like four miniature little atomic bombs simultaneously. Ground zero, In your face!
This night is underway in stunning fashion as Seattle’s rock station 99.9 KISW’s Sinners and Saints Rock Girl Gala is heating up. An evening filled with rocking bands and 40 hot ass chicks vying for status as Seattle’s “Rock Girls”. Bikinis, lingerie, bikinis and more bikinis. Fishnet, lingerie bikinis and still more bikinis. I think you get the idea. If not let me explain it a bit more. Each year we do this up in Seattle. For several months we nominate, interview, video, photograph, and otherwise turn inside out each nominee in order to prepare the “RockAholics” for their chance to vote for their favorites.
Lzzy Hale and her Band mates storm through the venue. Launching themselves of the monitors and each other they own the stage. From the pit my friends and I shoot in awe as their songs soar out to the crowd backed by gazillion watts of pure power.
Arejay Hale Smashes his drums in a brutally punishing fashion at times with drumsticks the size of baseball bats while his sister continues to woo the crowd deeper and deeper in love with every beat of every measure.
Josh Smiths endless hours practicing in his room have paid off as his bass mixes rhythms with the drums and lay down a groove for the always amazing guitar work of Joe Hottinger.
His feet stomp the pedals. His hands grabbing fistfuls of strings. His guitar screams like a banshee straight out of the depths of hell. Hottinger displays all the hallmarks of a seasoned rock star. Why? Because he is one. The smile is the icing on the cake. The package is complete. The house is rocking and the band is Halestorm.
Although not headlining, this band steals the show and sets the stage for their return to Seattle with the upcoming Uproar tour sharing the stage with the likes of Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Stone Sour, Hellyeah, Airbourne, and New Medicine.
We’ll be ready.
Two other bands are on the bill tonight to share the limelight. Adelitas Way is an up and coming band out of Las Vegas nevada. One of the band’s most-asked questions is their name. Rick, the consummate storyteller on and offstage, relates a great true tale. During a band road trip to LA, they took a detour to San Diego, and when Rick woke up from a nap in the back of the band truck, they were getting arrested in Mexico. Corrupt cops robbed the band, but Rick secreted away a little cash in his socks. Freaked out, the band went to the first bar they saw in Tijuana to have a beer and calm their nerves. It was the Adelita Bar. “There were a bunch of young, really pretty girls and I realized it was basically a brothel,” explains Rick. “I chatted with one girl, questioning why she was living this life? And I wrote a song about it. The band name emerged from the sad stories behind the ‘Way’ they lived at the Adelita—Adelitas Way.
Theory of a Dead Man rounds out the evening with many popular songs tucked neatly in their belt including perhaps the song which best describes the ladies tonight. “Bad Girlfriend”
She likes to shake her ass, she grinds it to the beat
She likes to pull my hair when I make her grind her teeth
I like to strip her down, she’s naughty to the end
You know what she is, no doubt about it
She’s a bad, bad girlfriend!
