NDAAZ Vocalist Deno Apodaca Interview
NDAAZ play the wicked rock and metals that will grab your ears like the handles on a second place pinewood derby trophy and force NDAAZ’s criminal level catchy tunes into permaspin in your brain pan. Lead vocalist Deno Apodaca took up the challenge of The Gauntlet Interview Series. Rules of The Gauntlet: The artist (Like in this case the badass NDAAZ) is sent a butt ton of questions ranging from standard to stupid from which they must choose at least 12 to answer and return them to us with a minimum of tear stains.
Tell me about your new album. The writing, vibe, production/producers, etc.
Our new album has been in the works for awhile now with a lot of false starts, trials & tribulations with the people we were trying to record with, plus right in the middle of all that our original drummer left for other endeavors. Looking back on it I believe it was meant to be, because our music has went in a new direction and has taken a new twist and we are all very pleased with the new sound. We will be working Adam Arcanium this time around and the vibe is truly feeling in tune.
Top 2 stupidest things you’ve ever done.
Stay with a woman who did not like the idea of me being in a band & Stay with a band that did not like me being in the band because they had no idea how to get rid of me, I was the only one that brought a crowd hehehehe.
What is your philosophy? Motto?
Fuck em if they can’t take a joke.
What exactly is “Going apeshit?”
Not exactly sure but I have went guano a couple of times in my life.
You’re Native American huh? Please don’t scalp me.
What’s the most embarrassing band you listen to?
HA well I am not really embarrassed by what I listen to, but one of the most embarrassing bands for my friends and family that I listen to would have to be the Bee Gees.
Why should people experience your music?
Well because it not only fun but is informative as well as we tend to touch on issues that affect the Native peoples past and present, I would like to think of ourselves as carpet lifters because there is a lot of dirt that needs to be exposed.
Stella or Guinness? Why?
Damn… Hhmmm can’t I just have both? Perhaps Guinness with dinner and Stella for after.
If you could accomplish one thing in a music career what would it be? When you achieve that will you quit?
That is an easy one and that is to play Red Rocks Amphitheater and would I quit? Well I could very easily quit, but I think music is too much in my blood, my life source so I would probably have to continue in some capacity in order to survive and not drive my family crazy with all that free time.
What master musicians would you like to study with?
David Gilmour & Jaco Pastorius.
What are your thoughts on music in general?
I believe it has lost its originality too many bands and artists sound alike, everyone seems to be in the mindset of “making it” and not stretching the boundaries of their talent and just being content with being another cookie cut music industry money maker for the complacent masses.
What do you geek out to besides your music? Please geek out on your geekiness.
Cartoons, Comic Books, Reading & Gaming, yeah man gaming is my crack cocaine of choice, um maybe I should just say it’s my vice of choice instead eh? I think I sometimes go over board because it is like I need a daily fix of Call of Duty or Titan Fall otherwise I get cranky.
If you had a time machine what would you do with it?
I would head straight for the Library of Alexandria, I mean could you imagine getting your hands on all the lost ancient knowledge and the conversations you could have inside that place.
Name two people cooler than Evel Kneivel. Why?
William S. Burroughs for his political and social perceptions & Carl Segan for his scientific genius and outlook on a much bigger universe than the one little bubble that most human beings are living in.
