Professional Murder Music, the name says it all. An urban assault on all your senses that you won’t soon forget. Having been in the spotlight and generating rave on all continents, it’s time to hear their side of the story as to what happened to them and what the future may hold.-You guys were a somewhat underground band until sky rocketing to fame a few years ago and signing to Geffen. With the release of your first album, was that surreal for you?
ROMAN: Getting the record deal was surreal, but the process afterward wasn’t. Getting the opportunity to work with some of the people that we did was amazing.
-What was the fan reaction to your music and achievements.
ROMAN: We have gained a worldwide fan base, thanks in part to the exposure we received early on… but mainly because I think we are doing something unique that people have latched onto.
-After leaving Geffen and signing to Underground Inc. What were the similarities between the two.
ROMAN: Underground acted only as a distributor for us. Since we were our own label, we handled all of the financial responsibilities on our own. The only similarity between working with Geffen and Underground was that we were a band making music. With the possibilities of the internet and the state of the industry today, such an arrangement is unnecessary and even somewhat detrimental to us… We have yet to receive even a single statement from Underground for sales of Looking Through, which was released 7 years ago.
-The bands second hiatus came as a surprise and near disappointment to fans all around the world. Care to explain the reasoning behind the sudden break.
ROMAN: After we finished touring in support of Looking Through, I bought a house and built a recording studio in the garage. That took a while to finish. In the meantime, we released the De Profundis album to give us time to write new material. Once we did start writing, the direction of the new material required me to become a better singer and so I took some time to strengthen my abilities as a singer. Once all of that was in place, we got down to recording the songs. Then there were the band member issues that came up.
TOM: We made a decision several years ago that we wanted to really push the band to another level and pretty much reinvent ourselves. That process obviously took a while and there were several twists and turns along the way. Jeff had decided to move on to play with Peter Murphy. Brian rejoined the band and left again. We went through a several drummers and bassists. We never stopped writing and working on new music, but there have been many times that we needed to shift focus and redirect our energy to some other situation that came up. -You recently played w Skumlove at the Dragonfly as a sort of come back show, how was it playing again and having a good fan response.
TOM: Getting on stage again felt great. All of the drama of pulling it all together disappeared with the first note.
ROMAN: It was a good first show for us. Especially considering that we found a drummer and bassist at the last minute. We had a great time and are looking forward to getting out and playing many more.
-Is it safe to say that this line up you have now is permanent. Care to introduce us to the line up?
Hopefully so. The lineup is Roman Marisak (vocals, guitar), Tom Hatziemanouel (guitar), Nicco Villalobos (drums). The bassist situation is kind of up in the air right now, we were working with someone who injured his hand and isn’t able to play. Kenny Lowry is filling in until that situation is sorted out.
-What is in the future for PMM?
In the near future; We will finish recording and releasing all of the new songs we have written, and we expect to get out and play a lot more shows and get back on the road.
