(Written by: Shannon Lewis) The Sammus Theory, residing in Phoenix, Arizona consisting of Sam Hughes (Vocals), Kyle Welnel (Rhythm Guitar), Jeremy Tabor (Lead Guitar), Marshall Harrod (Drums), and Brent Gililand (Bass). They are a new breed of musicians living life on a brighter side. “We’re best friends we travel the country and have a good time” Sam explains.
Placing an add on Craigslist, and Myspace classified Sam was able to gather Kyle and Jeremy into the group, Marshall and Brent just fell into place after a while. The group spends time within their homes making music. They build songs together and strengthen them until they have a draft, then they head to the studio and make the finished product.
When it comes to the music The Sammus Theory likes it heavy, “we like stuff that comes across a extremely powerful, that’s the feeling that we like. I think that the biggest inspiration and influence in our writing.” Sam explains. Most of the writing process is based on what they enjoy playing live, not what sounds good on the radio They strive to put on a show and have a good time with the fans.
The fan base for the band is very strong and crazy “It’s more than just band and fans, we are trying to knock that barrier down to make more of a relationship.” Sam says. “They help us when we need them and we help them when they need us.” he adds.
The Sammus Theory tours a lot, their Rise and Revolt Tour (2010) consisted of 100 dates that took them across the United States and kept them on the road most of the year. The Sammus Theory has a strong angle and are heading in the right direction. They have shared the stage with, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Shinedown and many others as well as playing Rockstar Uproar Festival and having national exposure on MTV and XM radio. But no matter the situation the band is grounded. They have learned a niche in how to tour, the band prioritizes both business and pleasure, loving every minute of the job.
