Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival 2013
Mayhem Fest 2013 in my book, hands down, though it was good, did not compare to last years line-up. We were graced with Slayer before the death of their guitarist Jeff Hanneman, as well as there being Slipknot, Motorhead, Anthrax and White Chapel to name just a few. This year’s line-up also had great acts such as Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, Mastadon, Amon Amarth, Machine Head, Children of Bodom, Behemoth, Job For A Cowboy, Emmure, Born of Osiris, Motionless in White, Butcher Babies, Battlecross, Huntress, Thrown Into Exile and City in the Sea.
The 2013 Mayhem Fest was the 6th annual festival, and this was the first year that the Mayhem Festival had four stages. The festival made its way to Colorado on Sunday, July 7, 2013 to Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. Just like the Vans Warped Tour, the Mayhem Festival brought a day with less heat than the year before. The day started off pretty hot, but the sporadic clouds and rain sprinkles helped to cool down the heat.
Less heat = happier fans and bands. The vibe of the day was good. The venue was packed, and there were metal heads everywhere. Some of the highlights of the day for me were seeing Butcher Babies for the first time and seeing Rob Zombie and his light and fire brigade, and the wonderful lack of heat. Though the rain at the end of the night during Rob Zombie was reminiscent of last year’s Mayhem; rain came down at the end of Slipknot’s set.
All in all, Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival 2013 was a good one. Kevin Lyman sure has his handle on the summer festivals. Keep them coming!
