Every Avenue Picture Perfect CD

17 August 2010 No Comment

There have been a few CDs over the last decade where I physically have had to force myself to grab the disc out of the player and walk over to another human being and say, “Take this CD away from me and don’t give it back for a month!” “Why?” says the other person with decidedly more sanity. “Because I can’t stop listening to it!!” And then I’m usually told to seek help. The last CD before Every Avenue’s Picture Perfect that caused such a highway-billboard-worthy-picture of audio addiction in me was My Chemical Romance’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. BTW: My fave metal bands like Slipknot and Killswitch don’t count. They are more like air and water in the grand musical taste scheme of things.

Picture Perfect is made up of 11 very solid pop-punk/indie-rock songs that will keep you moving and singing along for some time to come. These guys have been around for 7 years now so it’s not like they just learned how to write songs. Over those years Every Avenue has had several songs on MTV (the reality shows cuz actual music videos are VERBOTTEN! on MTV) and per Wikipedia: “The song “Picture Perfect” was featured in a montage during CBS’s coverage of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game on April 6, 2010.” Who says I don’t do any research? Everyone? Well there’s a first for everything. Regardless, it’s good to know that some video intern at CBS enjoys Every Avenue’s latest CD as much as I do.

There are so many good songs on this album that a run down of my faves will seem redundant of the CD play list. Song 1 “For Always, Forever” is a sing along powerhouse, song #2 “Mindset” ditto, “Tell Me I’m a Wreck” is a huge hit waiting to happen with long legs to boot, “Picture Perfect” is a hook machine with great song writing, “Happy The Hard Way” total power ballad kind of deal, and the rest of the album SUCKS!!! Just kidding, seeing if you were awake. There is not one single bad or even medium filler song on this album. Picture Perfect is total audio crack and I’m sure it will land in my Top Ten for the year. Other songs I totally dig are “I Forgive You” and the last song on the disc “Clumsy Little Heart”. The last song on this album is stronger than most bands heavy hitters that they throw in the first 4 slots of an album to try and impress people.

Go pick up Picture Perfect by Every Avenue. It is one big truckload of pop-indie awesome that will carry you through the rest of your summer and probably into most of fall and maybe even into winter but that might just be the crazy talking. That reminds me, I gotta go get the CD back from my neighbor. It hasn’t been a month yet, but oh well.

Also, one last side note. Bands please take a look at the video for “Tell Me I’m a Wreck.” It was made for lunch money and packs an emotional punch that gets the message across. (That’s fancy talk for “Sells records.”
