Assemble Every Girl’s Dream
In today’s music industry, handing out demo albums outside of another band’s show is one of the best ways for up and coming bands to get noticed. Assemble the Skyline is no different.
No, their difference lies in their remarkable approachability. Scanning the crowd at their show at the Key Club on Friday, July 9, many girls could be seen hugging the band members and talking excitedly. Days after, photos of the band and their cute (but very young) fans have covered my Facebook newsfeed.
I can’t help but smile. These boys know how to connect with their fan base. When coupled with their catchy pop-punk tunes and immense energy Assemble the Skyline seems like a nearly unstoppable force.
The band members met in February 2009 creating an undeniable force of attraction. The members are Luke Boor, vocals and guitar; Max Waller, bass and lead guitar; Austin Hayman, lead guitar and vocals; Nick Jordan, drums and vocals.
Assemble the Skyline was the direct support for the headliner, The Divine, at the Key Club on Friday. As the night progressed the room got more packed as the crowd grew wilder, and it seemed to culminate for Assemble the Skyline.
Girls screamed as Nick began the show by ripping off his shirt (most drummers should play shirtless.) This act was soon followed by
Luke shaking it in several girls’ faces causing several hands to shoot up into the air to touch him, with one bold hand slapping his butt.
The chaotic fun continued as the boys talked and serenaded almost every girl in the room. Luke and Max switched off lead vocals for songs and seemed to get an equal response from the crowd.
The half hour or so set was worth the couple hours wait through bands that were less than impressive. Heroes in Hollywood opened the show and did nothing to wow the crowd. They did mostly covers and, if it wasn’t for their enthusiasm, I would have had to leave the room.
My Hero followed them, sounding like the next Black Eyed Peas. The female lead singer came out wearing what I hope was a faux sheepskin dress with a belt that could be the next latest fashion. To stick with the random mix of sounds thrown into this show, Lions and Tigers and Bears came on stage next with some heavy sounds.
During this time, I took a stroll down to the merch tables and found a room under the stage that had another band setting up. The girl band looked promising, but did not deliver in any way. Not only was the lead singer’s outfit distracting with her bra hanging out, but the drummer was the only redeeming factor.
Slowly, Assemble the Skyline’s set time approached and our excitement grew. Their kickass show included their give-away of t-shirts, drum sticks, guitar picks and even both of Luke’s red Chucks. The screaming teenage girls went home happy, and bounced along to The Divine’s set.
The night ended on a fantastic note and, I won’t lie, I was one of those screaming girls out there. But with smiles like those, who could resist?
