Revolver Golden God Awards 2010

23 April 2010 No Comment

The second annual Revolver Magazine Golden God Awards were even more hectic but worthwhile than last years. If you were there then you probably got to rub elbows with the likes of Rob Halford, Chino Moreno, Maria Brink, Avenged Sevenfold, Bam Margera & Tommy Victor just to name a few.

Like last years awards, this year they were held at the same Club Nokia in beautiful Downtown Los Angeles. They had the traditional “black carpet” where there was a media frenzy between all the industry photographers and VJ’s fighting over interviewing and photographing the top notch musicians walking down the black carpet. I decided to skip out on the black carpet fighting ring and get straight to the actual award ceremonies inside as soon as I arrived.

Hosts Andrew W.K. and Chris Jericho replaced last years host, comedian and actor Brian Posehn. Brian was still in attendance and performed with his all-star band which featured Scott Ian(Anthrax), Brendon Small(Dethklok), John Tempesta(Exodus, The Cult & Testament) and Joey Vera(Fates Warning, Anthrax), with a special performance by none other than Zakk Wylde(BlackLabel Society).

As I Lay Dying, Rob Zombie, Fear Factory and The Devil Wears Prada accented the night with the performances. This was Fear Factory’s first performance with the original line up in years and Rob Zombie’s first performance with Joey Jordison(Slipknot) as drummer.

Upstairs on the 4th floor which was considered the “VIP Lounge”, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, Dave Grohl, Jonathan Davis, Marilyn Manson, Vinnie Paul, Kat Von D, In This Moment and many other attendees of the night could be found mingling and enjoying the night. It truly was a congregation of the who’s who in the music industry. (Picture of Steve & Karen Bartolone with Jennifer Cazares)

The Revolver Golden God Award is given to one special honoree each year that embodies all that is metal. This year, the prestigious award went to JUDAS PRIEST front man Rob Halford, and last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner, the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, presented it to him. Now that’s what I call a Golden God Moment.

This year’s recipient of the Revolver Golden Gods Lifetime Achievement Award was hard rock icon Lemmy Kilmister. Lemmy has fronted MOTÖRHEAD, one of the most influential bands on the planet, for 35 years, and his background includes being Jimi Hendrix’s roadie in the ’60s. After the awards were done and over with Lemmy was seen grabbing a celebratory drink along with dinner at his usual stomping ground, the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Blvd.

Revolver Golden Gods Awards Winners:

Revolver Golden God Award – Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST)
Revolver Golden Gods Lifetime Achievement Award – Lemmy Kilmister
Album Of The Year – ALICE IN CHAINS – Black Gives Way To Blue
Best Vocalist – Ronnie James Dio (HEAVEN & HELL)
Best Guitarist – Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY)
Best Drummer – Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan (AVENGED SEVENFOLD)
Best Live Band – METALLICA
Comeback Of The Year – ALICE IN CHAINS
Hottest Chick In Metal – Maria Brink (IN THIS MOMENT)

The night was an overall success. I can’t wait to see what next years award show is going to have to offer. It almost seems impossible to tops this years winners but you never know. Until next year!
